One of the priorities identified by the Boddam community was a desire to brighten the village with more flowers and colourful street planters.

Buchan Development Partnership helped turn that idea into action by bringing together Boddam Primary School P6/7 pupils, Boddam Primary School PTA and Peterhead Greenspace Guardians, part of Peterhead Community Council, for a community planting day.

Peterhead Greenspace Guardians kindly donated the flowers, compost and their expertise, while the PTA helped coordinate the activity with the school. The pupils enthusiastically planted the village planters and took real pride in helping improve their local community. They also volunteered to help water the planters throughout the summer holidays to keep them looking their best.

The impact of the project goes beyond simply making the village more colourful. It brought different groups together, gave young people an active role in improving their community and encouraged a sense of pride, ownership and volunteering.

We hope this is just the beginning. The project could also inspire local residents, businesses and community groups to adopt a planter and help keep Boddam blooming for everyone to enjoy.
